Belgrade and Visit to the Monasteries

OUR HOLY MONSTERIES SAVED INVALUABLE HERITAGE OF TIMELESS BEAUTY

Day one    

-          Arrival in Belgrade, meeting and assistance at the airport.

Transfer to the hotel.

-          After short rest, we start our panoramic sightseeing of Belgrade.

(Sightseeing tour same as described in City break 1)

Overnight in the hotel.

Day two

-          After breakfast our tour will take us beyond the pastures, horizons of mountains, fragrant grasses and deep forest which make golden landscape of Serbia. Hidden among the hills and plum-tree groves, medieval monasteries, as guardians of time, will appear one by one on our way.

-          Lazarica church named after its founder, Prince lazar, and dedicated to St. Stefan, is located within confines of the Krusevac citadel. Noble in proportions, this church became an example for other churches in Morava school of architecture. We will also visit the National Museum and monument dedicated to heroes of Kosovo battle against Turks.

-          Ljubostinja monastery - A monastery laying on a grassy clearing on the left bank of the river Ljubostinja. It was the foundation of Princess Milica, the wife of Prince Lazar and was built before the battle of Kosovo 1389. together with monasteries Lazarica and Kalenic, Ljubostinja marks the highest peak of Serbian artistic development in the period immediately preceding the collapse of Serbia as an independent state. Lunch in the national restaurant.

-          Studenica monastery - the monastery complex comprises numerous buildings and encircled by a high defensive wall. The artistic treasure of Studenica is a priceless cultural and aesthetic heritage. Owing to its importance in 1986 Studenica was registries in the UNESCO world cultural heritage. Dinner. Overnight in the monastery house or in the hotel - optional.

Day three

Early monastery breakfast and attending morning service in the church. Departure from Studenica to Zica monastery.

-          Zica monastery - Endowment of the King Stevan Prvovencani, built in the early 13^th century. Zica became the center of the first independent Serbian archiepiscopacy with the first archbishop St. Sava. Seven Serbian kings were crowned in Zica. No other church in Serbia had as much influence as Zica on the monuments built later in the Raska school of architecture.

-          Vrnjacka banja - one of the most famous and the most beautiful spas in Serbia. Famous sanatoriu, spa and tourist center. Free time for lunch. Departure for Belgrade. Arrival in Belgrade and overnight in the hotel.

Day four

-          After early breakfast, transfer to Belgrade airport and connecting flight to your home.

NOTE: Possible extension of the program with one or more days to visit Mileseva monastery with famous fresco "White Angel" as well as other monasteries.
