"MAGNUM EST STARE IN DANUBII RIPA" "How magnificent it is to stand on the bank of the Danube" (Gaius Plinius - Roman Consul 62-113 A.D.) Day one - Arrival in Belgrade, meeting and assistance at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. - After short rest, we start our panoramic sightseeing of Belgrade. (Sightseeing tour same as described in Citybreak 1) Overnight in the hotel. Day two - After breakfast departure from Belgrade to Eastern part of country following the stream of magnificent river Danube. This is not just the largest river gorge in Europe, but another one of nature`s remarkably attractive and unique phenomena with naturals wonders, significent archeological finds and exeptional flora and fauna on over than 63.000 hectares. - Smederevo - Old Serbian town, capital and cultural center in Serbia from the time of despot Djuradj Brankovic from 15th century. Visit to the medieval fortress. Despot Djuradj Brankovic had built it between 1428. and 1430. - Golubac - Before entering the gorge of Djerdap "The Iron Gate" and Dam there is one of the most beautiful monuments of medieval architecture. Golubac exceptional 14th century fortress which rises up on a high rock above the Danube. - Lepenski Vir - Archeological site containing fragments pottery belonging to the oldest culture of the Late Stone Age (Neolithic). One of Europe`s first monumental sculpture which goes back to 7000 - 6500 BC. Free time for lunch. - Kladovo - city with the Turkish fortification from the 16th century - Fetislam. Visit to: the monument Tabula Traiana, which was built in the rock above the Roman road by emperor Trian, Djerdap Dam - hydroelectric power station the fifth largest in the world and the archeological museum. While in Kladovo do not forget to try famous caviar obtained from white sturgeon. Overnight in the hotel. Day three After breakfast we continue our tour to Negotin a historical town. - Negotin - The birth place of national hero hajduk Veljko - the most courageous leader of rebellion during Turkish attack in 1813. Visit to the church where he was buried and to the museum house of famous Serbian composer Stevan Mokranjac. - Gamzigrad - Visit to the ruins of the late Roman fortress Gamzigrad (3rd and 4th century) – Felix Romulianum (in summer time only). An imperial residential palace - mausoleum and a church estate of Felix Romuliana are precious monuments of rich architecture decorations, mosaics, frescoes, built at the end of the 3rd and the begining of the 4th century A.C. - Rajac ethnic village and wine cellars. All area presents an urban locality with special rural caracteristics and rare ethnological values. Excellent sorts of wines grown in this region for almost two Day four After breakfast, transfer to Belgrade airport and connecting flight to your home.
