Vojvodina is the northern part of Serbia. The Danube, Tisa and Sava rivers pass through this largely flat area with only two mountains – Fruska Gora and Vrsacke Planine. Endless green plain, lakes, monasteries, cathedrals, baroque town halls, picturesque streets, old gentry castles, windmills, people with their unique cultures, traditions and customs. There are charming cities in this region which often have preserved their baroque heritage.

Novi Sad
is the capital of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, and as such, is home to Vojvodina’s Government and parliament. It was founded in 1694.

In the 19th century, the city was the capital of Serbian culture, earning the nickname Serbian Athens. In that time, almost every Serbian novelist, poets, jurist, and publicist at the end of 19th century and at the beginning of 20th century had lived or worked in Novi Sad some time of his career. Among others, these cultural workers include Vuk Stefanović Karadzić, Mika Antić, Đura Jakšić, etc. Matica Srpska, the oldest cultural-scientific institution of Serbia, was moved from Budapest to Novi Sad in 1864, while Serbian National Theatre, the oldest professional theatre among the South Slavs, was founded in Novi Sad in 1861.

Today, Novi Sad is the second cultural centre in Serbia (besides Belgrade) and city’s officials try to make the city more attractive to numerous cultural events and music concerts.

Museums and galleries
City has a couple of museums, and many galleries, public and privately owned through Novi Sad. The most well known museum in the city is Museum of Vojvodina, founded by Matica Srpska in 1847, which houses a permanent collection of Serbian culture and a life in Vojvodina through history. Museum of Novi Sad in Petrovaradin fortress has a permanent collection of history of fortress. Gallery of Matica Srpska is the biggest and most respected gallery in the city, which has two galleries in the city centre. There is also The Gallery of Fine Arts – Gift Collection of Rajko Mamuzic and The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection – one of the biggest collections of Serbian art from 1900s until 1970s.

The most recognized structure in Novi Sad is Petrovaradin Fortress, which dominates the city with scenic views of the city. Besides the fortress, there is also historic neighborhood of Stari Grad, with many monuments, museums, cafes, restaurants and shops. There is also a National Park of Fruska Gora nearby, approx. 20 km from city centre.

One of the two mountains in Vojvodina. Declared a national park in 1960. Monasteries in Fruska Gora are the biggest attraction.

Sremski Karlovci
Only 10 km away from Novi Sad, on the right bank of the Danube, on the slopes of the Fruska gora Mountain lies the town of Sremski Karlovci, very important for the Serbian history. At the beginning of the 18th century a siege of the Head of the Serbian orthodox church was located in this town. The first Serbian high school was founded here in 1791.

Subotica
A town located in the north of the region. The town architecture is represented by different styles, from Gothic to art nouveau, making Subotica an interesting and beautiful town. Four churches of different religions are built in different architectural styles. The baroque orthodox church (1730.), the baroque catholic cathedral (1779.), Franciscan church (1901.) representing the neo-romanticism and the synagogue (1901.) built in the art nouveau style. In the vicinity of Subotica there are two lakes: the Lake Palic spread on 5,5 km2 with a Zoo, sports terrains, walking tracks and Lake Ludos, a protected nature reserve, a rare birds habitat.

Sombor

One of the greenest towns of Europe. Its plane trees, horse-chestnut trees, linden trees and numerous decorative shrubs are widely distributed, so we can say that Sombor has 35m2 of greenery per person. Sombor is also an important historical town with great culture. Its was in Sombor that that Avram Mrazovic founded Norma a school for teachers in 1776. one of the teachers who was teaching at that school was Dositej Obradovic, writer, translator and the minister of education from the 18th century.

The oldest horse farm in Serbia. Founded in 1779. Museum of horse breeding and horse racing, a hippodrome, mini Zoo, a lake and a hotel are located on its grounds.

Bela Crkva
Is interesting because of its many lakes, suitable for swimming with organized beaches with showers, bungalows, tourist area, camp, restaurants etc. The scenery consists of numerous hills covered with orchards and vineyards. You can use a ferry to cross the Danube River and get to the old fortress of Ram. Border crossing to Romania, Kaludjerovo, is only 4 km away from the town. Deliblatska Pescara reserve is 15 km away.

Becej
Town on the right bank of the Tisa river. Over 900 years old. The first written document that mentions this town dated back to 1091.

Dundjerski Castle
Located 14 km from Becej. Once it was a manor of Bogdan Dundjerski (1862-1942). The Mansion (today a hotel) was built at the beginning if the 20th century I the style representing a mixture of baroque, romanticism and neoclassicism.

Djurdjevski Castle

Vrsac
Old town in Banat region, known for its good wine, pharmaceutical industry and basketball. The most important event of the year is Grape harvest in Vrsac.

Kovacica
Big Slovak community lives in Kovacica. Martin Jonas, Zuzana Halupova, and other naive painters made Kovacica world famous center of the naïve art.
