Through country you can find traces of our heritage starting from 6000 years BC up to Medial Serbia, empire, monasteries, lakes, rolling hills and meadows, spas, areas of unspoiled nature, peaks, caves, springs.
Day one BELGRADE Arrival, meeting and assistance ate airport. Transfer to the hotel. After short rest, we start our sightseeing tour of Belgrade. Belgrade is the town at the junction of the river Sava & Danube 7000 years old. The Sava coming from the west, and the Danube arriving from the north, join their waters to proceed eastwards. The fortress, built on the high ground is overlooking the confluence of these two rivers. It was laid in ruins some sixty times but always arose from its cinders. For centuries it was a frontier fortress, the apple of contend between rivaling invaders, Romans, Goths, Avars, Huns, Byzantines, Crusaders, Hungarian, Turks and others. Its oldest recorded name was Singidunum. In the 9th century A.D. documents call it "Alba Graeca" - "White City" which is precisely what Belgrade means in Serbian... The oldest part of the town is situated at Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan park, with a promenade, and beautiful views of the confluence of two rivers at the distance, you can see the new section of the town - New Belgrade. The tour is continued through the center of the town where we can visit the Orthodox Cathedral and Manor of Princess Ljubica, Republic Square, Building of Parlament, National Theatre, National Museum, hotel "Moskva", a National Assembly, Vuk Karadzic foundation, monument of Nikola Tesla and St. Sava Memorial Church. Nearby is the monument of the Nobel Prize winner - Ivo Andric. In Prince Mihailo Street, you will enjoy the atmosphere of the old times, combined with the glamour of modern shops. In the evening hours we will visit old Skadarlia street. Although renovated this pedestrian street has old buildings and authentic look and it is presented as the bohemian part of the city. Skadarlia is known by its attractive restaurants where you can enjoy national specialties and live music and theatrical performance and exhibitions. After that we walk and visit another street, which became famous in last decade, with a lot of modern cafes and young people or depending of season - we will visit floating restaurants on Danube. Dinner. Overnight in the hotel. Day two Optional visit to museum, or take a cruise on Danube or just relax and do some shopping. Suggestion: Ethnographic Museum, House of Flowers Museum - Titos grave, Museum Nikola Tesla. Optional: cruise evening tour or dinner with folklore. Day three VOJVODINA After the breakfast we will take full day tour to idyllic Vojvodina plain. Firstly we will visit Fruska Gora mountain with wooded hills alongside the river Danube. Famous for its vineyards and monasteries from the 15th to 16th century. Some of 17 monasteries were erected at the end of the Medieval period and for several centuries represented the spiritual center of Serbian nation. Thus they were often labeled as the Serbian mountain Athos. Our travel continues to Sremski Karlovci. Sightseeing of historical and monuments: Patriarchate, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, Upper Church and Lower Church, Roman Catholic Church, Regional Museum, the first Grammar school from 1790 and Peace Chapel. An old tradition in wine growing and good sorts of wine in this region, bring us to famous wine cellars. Lunch in the restaurant "Dunav" in Sremski Karlovci placed by the river Danube. After lunch, departure to Novi Sad, capital of Province of Vojvodina. It was the border area during the great Austro-Turkish war and in time it developed into a vigorous economic, cultural and trade center. Of a special importance among venerable buildings there are the Greek school, old Matica Srpska library, the Orthodox Cathedral with its famous iconostasis (1742-1880) and medieval history scenes made by great Serbian painter Paja Jovanovic, St. Nicholas, Almaska and the Church of the Assumtion. Matica Srpska Gallery and Beljanski Memorial offer a representative survey of Serbian painting and engraving from 18th century. Visit to Petrovaradin Fortress. The present Fortress located across the Danube was called "Gibraltar of the Danube" because of its strategic role through the centuries. Today it is a town museum on the way back visit to ethno house for a glass of wine. Dinner and overnight. Day four DANUBE-KLADOVO On 1005-th km of Danube from its mouth, scientist discovered prehistoric settlement Lepenski Vir, old almost 8000 years. It had been discovered that prehistoric man knew about modules, urban planning and for some technical solutions which we use nowadays. Because of this discovery Lepenski Vir represents one of the most significant monuments of prehistory age, with world importance. In the same time this is the first track of civilization in Iron Gate Regional. Visit to "Diana" - Roman and early Byzantine camp from II century A.C. It served as residence of emperor Trajan for the time of his great building activity in Iron Gate region. Fortress was protected by 3.5 km long channel where slaves used to drag galleys through Iron Gate whirlpool. This is just a part of the story about the Roman civilization that remained in the Iron Gate region. Dinner and overnight.
Day five GAMZIGRAD - VRNJACKA BANJA Gamzigrad - visit to "Felix Roumuliana" - complex of buildings, as the ancient Romans used to call it. One of the oldest military fortress - Cast rums of Roman Empire founded at the end of 3rd century. It belongs to the same category of Roman residential palace - Mausoleum. It is a precious monument of world architectural heritage with rich decoration: mosaics, frescoes, stucco-ornaments and relieves. Vrnjacka Banja - one of the most famous and the most beautiful spas in Serbia. Dinner and overnight in one hotel in Vrnjacka banja or at Studenica monastery manor. Day six STUDENICA MONASTERY - NOVI PAZAR Studenica monastery was established in the late 12th century by Stevan Nemanja, founder of the medieval Serb state, shortly after his abdication. It is the largest and richest among Serbias Orthodox monasteries. Its two principal monuments, the Church of the Virgin and the Church of the King, both built of white marble, enshrine priceless collections of 13th and 14th century Byzantine painting. Novi Pazar - After the conquest of the southern regions of Serbia, a "Turkish" noble, Ishak-beg Ishakovic, founded the town of Novi Pazar (literally New Market, in Turkish language Yeni Bazaar) around 1460, as an important tradinig post en route from Istanbul via Skopje to Bosnia and Dubrovnik. Although the town deteriorated in the course of the 19th century, it retained its significance as the center of Sanjak (serb. Sandzak), an administrative unit of the Ottomans Empire. As "Sanjak of Novibazaar" was a piece of land keeping Serbia and Montenegro divided, the region was of great importance to both the Ottomans and the Habsburgs. Today, Novi Pazar is the most oriental town in Serbia, both in appearance and in spirit. Apart from being the hub of the Serbian speaking Muslim, it is best known for its trade. Monastery Sopocani, the endowment of King Uros from 13th century. The beauty of the existing rescoes in the temple makes Sopocani one of the most cherished monuments of European art from 13-14th centuries. From 1979 UNESCO put the Sopocani on its list of world cultural heritage. Petrova Crkva in Ras is the oldest Serbian Orthodox Church from 10th century and throughout the whole medieval period it was the archbishopric centre. Djurdjevi Stupovi - the monastery with the dome from 12th century is partially restored. The interior church walls are decorated with 1175 partly preserved frescoes orated with 1175 partly preserved frescoes. Lunch in typical national restaurant with local specialties. Dinner, overnight in Novi Pazar. Day seven MILESEVA MONASTERY - ZLATIBOR Mileseva is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located near Prijepolje, in southwest Serbia. It was founded by the King of Serbia, Vladislav, between 1234 and 1236. the church has frescoes by the most skillful artists of that time, including one of the most famous in Serbian culture, the "White Angel", which depicts an angel on Christs grave. Lunch on the way to Zlatibor. Zlatibor, mountain known for its remarkable beauty, vast pastures, picturesque hills, rivers and creeks. A "healthy" mountain, suitable for relaxation, recreation activities and a good place for congress tourism.
Day eight ZLATIBOR MOUNTAIN Sirogojno village - museum was first mentioned in the Turkish land register in 1476. This museum is the example of the traditional village architecture, and its work shop treasures the products of the world known knitters in this region. Departure to Mokra Gora area. Sarganska 8 is one of the most beautiful railway-tracks in the world. It is a great pleasure to take a ride in this train composition pulled by "parnjaca-steam locomotive", through 22 tunnels "winning" the height difference of over 300 m. The ride lasts 2,5 h. Departure to Mecavnik, ethno village, which is about 10 min far from Sarganska 8. The idea for the construction of Mecavnik was born during the shooting of the movie "Zivot je cudo" (Life is a miracle), by the famous director Emir Kusturica. Ethno village Mecavnik was built under the patronage of UNICEF. Dinner and overnight. Day nine ZLATIBOR - OVCAR KABLAR - TOPOLA OPLENAC On the road from Cacak to Uzice, in the gorges of Western Morava river and in the foothill of Ovcar and Kablar, there are 14 Serbian monasteries. Most of them were built during the Turkish invasion, when orthodox churches had to move to isolated parts of the country. Topola - heart of Serbia. Topola is a town which is always connected to the Karadjordjevic dynasty and is situated in the very heart of Sumadija. It is not an ancient town but it was marked during the 18th, 19th and 20th century by many important historical events among which the most important was the First Serbian uprising.
